While we’re hopefully still a few weeks away from temperatures plummeting towards zero, many Scots are unaware that cold weather could spell good news for some households by providing £25 to help with the cost of heating bills.
The Cold Weather Payment is a UK Government subsidy paid out to help householders on a low income pay their fuel bills during periods of especially bad weather.
Eligible claimants will get £25 for each seven-day period of very cold weather between November 1 and March 31.Payments are triggered by data collected by the Met Office from 94 weather stations around the UK.
