A fire-obsessed thug who "senselessly" killed a pensioner by torching his mobility scooter outside his home has been jailed for 13-and-a-half years.

Malcolm Turner, 69, died when his house was engulfed in flames after Richard Newing, 43, torched his mobility scooter outside his property on Jenner Street, Coventry on August 20, 2019.

Newing, who was said to be "obsessed with fire", lay some paper on the scooter to light it before the flames tore through the windows and quickly enveloped Mr Turner's home.

Mr Turner, who was heavily reliant on his scooter, was unable to leave the building as the blaze was started at the only exit of his home.
