Charlie Elms was stabbed during a disturbance on Fifth Avenue on May 26. The 25-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. His pregnant girlfriend, in a tribute released by the police, said he was 'thrilled' to become a dad for the first time before his death.
On Wednesday, police said Melvin James Whelan, 38, of Greenacres Road, Oldham, had been charged with one count of violent disorder.
