Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has been accused of ‘doing a Mohamed Salah' after failing to square the ball to the Egyptian against Manchester City on Sunday. The former Wolves star was slipped through on goal late into the first half, but before he was able to get his shot away, Aymeric Laporte slid in and somehow managed to tackle the Portuguese international.
But what was made all the more frustrating for Reds fans is that Salah was ready and waiting for a tap-in besides him.Given that Salah has been accused of being selfish in front of goal previously, many saw the irony in the Egypt international’s fury at not receiving the pass.
One person wrote on Twitter: “Salah mad at Jota for being selfish. How ironic.”Whilst another added: “Jota just did a Salah.” The opportunity to equalise before the half-time break – with City 2-1 up at the time – means that it was all the more frustrating for Liverpool supporters that Jota didn’t even force a save from Ederson.“Poor from Jota there, should have either hit it or squared it to Salah,” said one fan, whilst another vented: “Jota should have passed to Salah here.
Can’t afford to waste such a great chance against a team like City.” Salah is out of contract in 2023 and negotiations have been ongoing for months now, with fears that the former Chelsea forward may not put pen to paper on a new deal.
