Dawn French has come under fire for telling TV writers Jack and Harry Williams they would never be a success. The talented brothers have penned ITV drama Liar, starring Downton Abbey’s Joanne Froggatt and Fantastic Four actor Ioan Gruffudd, which starts its new series tonight.

And the pair are also the brains behind hits such as The Missing, Cheat, Rellik, Baptiste and The Widow. However, when they were starting out they tried their hand at comedy.

Jack worked on a pilot sitcom with Vicar Of Dibley star Dawn and drafted in Harry to help. Jack said: “She went ‘One word of advice.
