Daryl Morey, the Houston Rockets general manager whose 2019 tweet in support of the Hong Kong protests led to a major international controversy, resigned from his position on Thursday.
The news ofMorey's departure came from a number of NBA insiders. However, the reason for his decision was unclear. The Rockets were knocked out of the 2020 playoffs by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round.
The Lakers would go on to win the championship. Morey made international headlines when on Oct. 4 of last year, he sent a tweet in support of the Hong Kong protests.
That single message snowballed, beginning withthe Chinese Basketball Association's suspension of its relationship with the Rockets, and then all Rockets merchandise being removed from.
