Police in the UK have issued more than 1,000 fines to Brits caught flouting the coronavirus lockdown, it has been revealed. Cops from 37 police forces across England and Wales have slapped fines on 1,084 people for defying the strict shutdown.

The figure was revealed at the government’s daily press conference by the chairman of the National Police Chiefs Council, Martin Hewitt.

He revealed that there has been a 21% drop in overall crime in the past four weeks compared to the same period last year. But he also announced that the number of reported incidents of domestic violence has gone up in recent weeks.
