The Wombats have shared their sombre new single ‘My Head Is Not My Friend’ from their upcoming album ‘Oh! The Ocean’.Featuring a slow tempo with a soft bass line and frontman Matthew ‘Murph’ Murphy’s sweet vocals singing the vulnerable and relatable lyrics: “Let’s spend the day in bed / Talk about you instead / My head is not my friend,” The Liverpudlian band’s latest single discusses one’s internal struggles with themselves and not being the nicest to ones self.Speaking about ‘My Head Is Not My Friend’ in a press release, Murphy shared: “‘My Head Is Not My Friend’ is a song about the idea that maybe I don’t actually have my best interests at heart.”The song’s accompanying visualiser features a mannequin head that has been set on fire in the middle of a winter snowstorm. The Wombats are to play their biggest ever hometown show at Liverpool’s On The Waterfront next summer.The indie trio will headline the festival at Pier Head on June 19, with other night’s lineups being topped by Irish rebel music legends The Wolfe Tones, the 50-piece Classical Ibiza Kaleidoscope Orchestra and Sting.Tickets for The Wombats’ day at the festival, which will also feature performances from Pale Waves, Sawyer Hill and other acts to be confirmed, are on sale now and you can find yours here.A post shared by On The Waterfront Liverpool (@otwfliverpool)Writing about the show on Instagram, the band have said: “Liverpool did you think we’d forgotten about you?!! As if! We’re so excited to announce that we’re playing a huge hometown show, back where it all began, on the 19th June 2025 at the Pier Head!! The Wombats have returned with the details of a six-track EP titled ‘Is This What It Feels Like To Feel Like This?’, announcing it alongside a visualiser for the title track.On the breezy new song’s origins, frontman Matthew ‘Murph’ Murphy said in a press release: “I remember driving past an extremely rundown hotel and wondering what the hell could be going on in there, and that’s where this song was born. It’s about catching someone in a compromising situation that’s very unusual for their specific character and is far more fitting for your own.”Check out the visualiser for ‘Is This What It Feels Like To Feel Like This?’ below:The full EP – described as the band’s “rawest material yet, trading polished synths for spiky guitar riffs and heavy choruses” – will be out on November 18 via AWAL, with a vinyl pressing set to accompany its digital release.It was largely produced by bassist Tord Øverland Knudsen, who worked on and mixed the record in his Norway studio, following UK sessions co-produced by Knudsen, Murph and drummer Dan Haggis.
