Coronavirus cases in the UK are falling between 2% and 4% a day, new government figures say. The news comes as figures that show how quickly the number of coronavirus infections are changing on a daily basis have been published for the very first time.

On Friday the government said it was dropping the coronavirus alert level across the UK from four to three. The downgrade indicates that the transmission rate of the virus is no longer high or it is not spreading at a rapid rate, Sky News reports.

The nation's coronavirus 'R rate' - the reproduction rate - remains unchanged at 0.7 to 0.9 which means it meets the government's target of keeping it below 1.0.
