Coronavirus forces world’s oldest man to celebrate 112th birthday alone

The world’s oldest man is being forced to celebrate his birthday alone in self-isolation thanks to the coronavirus outbreak.

Bob Weighton, who turns 112 tomorrow, said the planned festivities are now a “dead loss” after everything had to be cancelled since gatherings of two or more people are banned for the foreseeable future.

Bob took the title of oldest man in the world last month after the death of the previous holder, Chitetsu Watanabe of Japan.

Last year, the former teacher and engineer celebrated with his many friends at his retirement flat but this year the supercentenarian - someone aged 110 and older - is under lockdown like the rest of the country.
