Boris Johnson's job is on the line after a vote of “no confidence” was officially triggered. The Conservative Party's 1922 committee chairman Sir Graham Brady announced this morning (Monday, June 6) that the threshold for letters being sent to him by rebel MPs in favour of a vote had reached the threshold. The 54 letters total was nearly reached two weeks ago, according to a source speaking exclusively to the Daily Star, but the tipping point was allegedly the booing of the PM during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations over the weekend.
And now, all 180 Conservative MPs will vote today on whether or not they want Boris Johnson to carry on leading the party – or if he'll have to stand aside and let someone else lead the country.
Sir Graham Brady said in a statement: “The threshold of 15% of the parliamentary party seeking a vote of confidence in the leader of the Conservative Party has been exceeded.“In accordance with the rules, a ballot will be held between 1800 and 2000 TODAY MONDAY 6th JUNE — details to be confirmed.“The votes will be counted immediately afterwards.
