Black Labrador rescued after swimming 1km down river to chase ducks

The excitable pooch swam away from its owner in a Melbourne park on Friday, August 21.Luckily, Victorian Fire and Rescue crews were on a routine marine exercise in the Maribyrnong River nearby and the distressed dog owner approached them for help.Firefighting crews, who were already in boats, quickly set off along the river in search of the cheeky pooch.A passer-by directed them towards the lake at Edgewater Marina where he had spotted the dog.Despite the kilometre-long swim, firefighters said the dog did not appear to be tired and was in fact still swimming and happily chasing ducks when they found.
