BBC is forking out £38 million to ensure pensioners cough up the cash for their TV licences following the recent decision to make over-75s pay the fee.
TV Licensing bosses are sending 4.5 million letters to over-75s, reminding them to pay the £157 annual BBC licence fee.Call centres have also been set up to chase pensioners with over 800 new TV Licensing agents taken on.The scheme will cost £38 million in its first year, and around £13 million each year thereafter.Pensioners were told at the start of July they would have to comply with the new rules, or face consequences.At the time, BBC chairman Sir David Clementi said: "The decision to commence the new scheme in August has not been easy."The BBC could not continue delaying the scheme.
