In a new landmark court decision, casual workers will now be entitled to paid leave. The decision means that those who work have regular rostered shifts or perform regular, permanent work as a casual staff member will now be entitled to leave benefits.
This includes being entitled to annual leave accruement, carer’s leave and paid compassionate leave. The court found that employees who work these regular hours were entitled to the new ruling, even if they are described as a casual employee on their employment contract.
