While investing in an open top car is a dream for many, is it worth the price tag in a country with such unpredictable weather?

Hedonistic pleasure doesn’t come much more in your face than a roofless supercar. McLaren, Ferrari, Aston Martin and even Bentley are all at it – offering a 200mph blast that can literally take the breath away.

But roofless specials aren’t a new thing. Perhaps the most famous of them all was the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR the late Sir Stirling Moss steered to victory in the Mille Miglia in 1955.

Back then there was no roll-over protection and oil-flecked racers wore flimsy helmets for safety. Sir Stirling once admitted as he drove me in the SLR that he and co-driver Denis ‘Jenks’ Jenkinson never considered the dangers
