Cher has announced that she is ready to take Ukrainian refugees into her home and has said other people in her position "need to step up to the plate" and do the same.

The Believe singer, 75, said she wanted to do her bit to help amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. And she said she would like to think that people would do the same for her if she was in that position. She tweeted: "I would like to sponsor Ukrainian families in my home."They would be safe and cared for."Cher, who often tweets in capitals, went on: "MANY PEOPLE IN MY POSITION NEED TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE."IF I WAS ALONE OR WITH MY CHILDREN & WE WERE TRAUMATISED, I WOULD HOPE SOMEONE LIKE ME TO TAKE CARE OF US."The singer - who lives in the US - isn't the only star to say she is willing to offer up her home to some of those fleeing the conflict.Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch has recently said that he wants to be part of the government's "homes for Ukraine" scheme. He told Sky News at the BAFTAs: "We need to donate, we need to pressure our politicians to create some kind of refugee safety and a haven here for people who are suffering."Everyone needs to do as much as they can, and I think already today the news has broken that there's been a record number of people volunteering to take people into their homes."I hope to be part of that myself."He went on: "And also obviously donating to charities who can help people in a very real way on the ground in Poland or just over the border if it is safe to do so."
