A woman was raped on a seafront by a male who is believed to have worn a surgical mask. The 40-year-old woman was walking next to the sea in Southsea, Hampshire, when a man grabbed her from behind and assaulted her.
Hampshire Police are now appealing for witnesses to the attack which happed in a park next to the seafront on the Clarence Esplanade on Monday night.
A 19-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of rape but has been released under investigation. The woman is being treated at Queen Alexandra Hospital for a suspected fractured cheekbone.
She also suffered bruising to her face, arms, legs and back. Her attacker is described as white, heavily built and with facial hair.
