American singer-songwriter Willie Wright has died at the age of 80. The star was due to celebrate his 81st birthday next week but news of his passing earlier this month has now been confirmed.
His passing was confirmed in a statement from his family on his official website for Green Coil Records, which reads: "We are sad to announce the passing of our dear friend and musical collaborator Willie Wright earlier this month in Providence, Rhode Island, U.S.A. "In addition to his family and many friends, he leaves legions of loyal fans worldwide, who will keep his unique musical legacy alive." Wright began his lengthy music career with doo-wop bands in the 1960s before his own solo success.
