Princess Anne has again been given a key role at Saturday's Trooping the Colour, as a token of appreciation for her years of unwavering loyalty. The Princess Royal, 73, will join the procession on 15 June as the esteemed 'Gold-Stick-in-Waiting', a title given to the person who is responsible for the personal safety of the monarch.

As a 'personal aide-de-camp' to her brother, Anne will ride on horseback alongside her nephew, Prince William, 41, and brother, Prince Edward, 60 – wearing her uniform as Colonel of the Blues and Royals and carrying a gold stick. They will ride behind the 75 year old King, who will be joining the parade that celebrates his official birthday each year in a carriage for the first time, following recent treatment for cancer.

Princess Anne first took on the role for the King's Coronation, leading a procession featuring 6,000 armed services personnel, and again at last year's Trooping The Colour.

King Charles had personally expressed his desire for his younger sister to do so, leaving her incredibly honoured, according to royal insiders who spoke to the Mirror. The siblings have always had a close bond since their childhood, with Charles often envious of Anne's close relationship with their late father, Prince Philip.
