Wanted man who sparked huge police presence in city centre after scaling roof appears in court

A man wanted for failing to attend court was arrested yesterday after being brought down from a roof by police. Greater Manchester Police responded to reports of a man spotted on a roof in Manchester city centre shortly after 4.45pm on Monday 23 March.

Stephen Prescott, 34, was spoken to by specialist police negotiators, who were able to calm the situation down before he was brought down and arrested.

Prescott, of Salford, was arrested for failing to appear at court, going equipped for theft after being found with a bolt cutter and theft from a motor vehicle.

He’d previously pleaded guilty to the latter charges at an earlier date, but failed to attend his sentencing. Appearing at Manchester Magistrates court this morning, he was sentenced
