Waitrose has issued an apology to its customers after a systems error has left shelves that are supposed to contain some fresh products empty for days.

Branches of the supermarket chain across the country were left without bakery, fruit, and other fresh items. Meanwhile, deliveries were also disrupted due to the slow-running system update.

Customers in Maidenhead, Cheltenham, Cambridge and the Channel Islands all reported not being able to get the products they wanted ahead over the bank holiday weekend and as late at Tuesday evening. A spokesman said: “We are really sorry that some branches have had low stock. “We’ve fixed the cause of the issue, with extra deliveries already out with stores.
