Ukraine Air Force admits legendary 'Ghost of Kyiv' pilot wasn't real

Ukrainian Air Force has admitted that the legendary Ghost of Kyiv pilot was in fact not real. The Ghost of Kyiv was said to be a Ukrainian fighter pilot that reportedly fought against all odds and with outdated weapons managed to shoot down 40 Russian warplanes during the early stages of the war.The pilot's name was said to be Stepan Tarabalka and he was allegedly killed in action on March 14.However, that has now been revealed to have been false.The Ukrainian Air Force tweeted on Sunday (May 1): “The information about the death of the Ghost of Kyiv is incorrect. “The Ghost of Kyiv is alive, it embodies the collective spirit of the highly qualified pilots of the tactical aviation brigade who are successfully defending Kyiv and the region.”It added on Facebook: “Ghost of Kyiv is a superhero legend whose character was created by Ukrainians!”In other words, the Ghost of Kyiv is an idea, not a single person.Twitter users were quick to show their support for said idea, with one writing: "I wish people could simply understand the value of storytelling, myth and legend without it needing to be explained.
