BBC star Deborah James says 'I do not want to die' and admits heartbreak in final column

BBC's Deborah James has spoke about her deepest fears as she discontinues her cancer treatment and moves to hospice care at home.The beloved campaigner has battled stage four bowel cancer tirelessly since 2016 but announced in a tear-jerk tweet on Monday (May 9) that the time had come to say "goodbye".In her last ever column, the You, Me & The Big C podcaster revealed she was frightened and didn't want to die.She also explained her heartache when thinking about her children getting married without her being present.In the heartfelt publication, Deborah added "nobody knows how long i've got left".Writing in her final column for The Sun, she penned: "I do not want to die – I can't get my head around the idea that I will not see my kids weddings or see them grow up – that I will no longer be a part of life that I love so much."Deborah continued: "I am not brave – I am not dignified going towards my death – I am simply a scared girl who is doing something she has no choice in but I know I am grateful for the life that I have had."She went on to explain that the last six months had been "hellish" for her health wise, with the television personality suffering an internal bleed that left her wondering how she'd survived.The podcaster said: "The last six months have arguably been the hardest of my whole cancer journey – the sheer unrelenting medicalisation of my body has been heartbreaking to experience and the moments of being out of hospital and pain free have become more and more rare and fleeting."In her final update, she revealed that she'd essentially lived in hospital since January 6 but was now at peace at home surrounded by loved ones.Due to a rapid decline in health, Deborah praised her wonderful husband Sebastien.
