Brits are spending more money on alcohol and tea than last year, despite the impact of the pandemic on our finances. Overall, households will spend £6,600 less this year compared with 2019, according to analysis from Mintel, working out at an astonishing £183.6 billion drop.
But the research found evidence that sales of tea and alcohol have been boosted as people have swapped going out for staying in.
Food sales also rose, with people eating far more meals at home, rather than work and school lunches and dinners out.
