TikTok has scrapped plans to open headquarters in Britain after Huawei was banned from building a 5G network. The social media app had been in talks with the  Department for International Trade and Downing Street over the past few months in the hopes of locating its super HQ in London.

But the tech giant has since pulled out citing the "wider geopolitical context". No decision has been made about the HQ's location and it's unclear what other locations are under consideration.

The move comes as part of a strategy to distance itself from its Chinese ownership, a source told Reuters. TikTok has millions of worldwide followers but has increasingly been under fire and is facing a potential ban in the US over security concerns.
