Netflix has pulled The Mighty Boosh from its service due to the show’s use of blackface.The League Of Gentlemen has also been removed as the latest in a number of shows that are disappearing from streaming services due to perceived racial insensitivity.Both shows contain a character that is played by a white actor wearing blackface, and The Guardian reports that the shows have been removed from Netflix due to being racially problematic.
The League Of Gentlemen still remains on BBC iPlayer though, with no apparent plans to remove it.The Mighty Boosh‘s character Spirit Of Jazz and The League of Gentlemen’s Papa Lazarou have become the focus of the criticism, though League‘s co-creator Reece Shearsmith has always denied that Lazarou was.
