Teletubbies' Laa-Laa exposes horrific set smell which 'would make you heave'
dailystar.co.ukEach episode would open with a lifting, catchy theme song and the iconic baby-faced sun which would brighten up the Teletubbies' day.The show followed the lives of the Teletubbies as they carried out daily tasks and fun activities, like singing and dancing.READ MORE: ITV bosses currently looking at reviving Pop Idol with epic reunion specialThe Teletubbies often shared their favourite cuisine, Tubby Custard and Tubby Toast, regularly making and eating the wacky meals.However, in the book, actress Nikky Smedley, who played Laa-Laa, revealed the Teletubbies' favourite custard had an unforgettable smell - and not in a good way.Revealing what was once a top set-secret, Nikky explained the stench of the mash potato-based goo would "make you heave".She went on to describe the "gag-inducing" smell from the Tubby Custard machine."Failure to forensically clean out the custard machine after use led to an inhumanly gross stench the next time the back of it was opened," she said.Having played Laa-Laa from 1997 to 2001, Nikky recalled the "disgusting concoction" created for the smelly Tubby Custard."It was made from a cheap catering pack of instant mash potato, watered down to the correct consistency and turned pink with colouring," she revealed.Despite the odd food the Teletubbies often devoured, Nicky looks back on fond memories of her time on the show in her recent book Over the Hills and Far Away: My Life as a Teletubby.In the book, Nikky speaks out about acting as Laa-Laa, the astonishing success of the Teletubbies phenomenon and divulges into more exclusive set secrets.The original run of Teletubbies went on until it was axed in 2001.
