Patrick Wolf announces first album in 13 years ‘Crying The Neck’ with mystical single ‘Dies Irae’
Patrick Wolf has announced his new album ‘Crying The Neck’ and has shared the mystical new single ‘Dies Irae’.The anthemic ‘Dies Irae’ features a whirlwind of mystical sounds as Wolf sings: “The night is yet to fall (oooh) / Not yet your funeral (oooh) / And while we’re alive, alive, alive, alive (oooh) / What can I do to help (oooh) /You hold back tomorrow,” describing an “affirmation of life”.The song’s title originates from the Latin Requiem Mass and translates to “the day of wrath” and part of the track’s string arrangement is based on a Latin-mass Medieval Gregorian chant of the same title.Speaking about the track in a press release, Wolf shared that the song was created as a response of “the day of separation from the living,” viewing it as a “an affirmation of life in the last days of knowing you are about to lose someone you love, and a courageous – almost rebellious – choice against the misery to use the time remaining to deepen your love or joy with each other.”He continued, explaining that he wrote the song “to give myself another day I didn’t have with my mother during her rapid descent in illness.” He also explained that ‘Dies Irae’ completed the arc of the LP, saying: “I finished the lyrics as an imaginary last conversation with my mother in her art studio and out to the garden as the evening falls. My sister Jo Apps came in the last days of mixing to sing the backing vocals, and in a way, it meant that we could both share a last dance in the kitchen with our ma together.”‘Dies Irae’ serves as the first taster of Wolf’s forthcoming seventh album ‘Crying The Neck’ which is set for release on April 25 via Apport/Virgin Music and is available to pre-order here.

You’re invited to take part in fan survey to help decide the future of UK live music
Music Fans’ Voice have invited gig-goers to spend 15 minutes completing a survey that could help “shape the future of UK live music”.As was announced today (February 3) on Instagram, the survey is now live and can be completed here, giving music lovers a chance to make their voice heard on subjects like dynamic ticket pricing – which, post-Oasis reunion, has made consistent headlines in recent months. As it stands, touts reportedly cost music fans an extra £145million per year, and last year the band revealed plans to cancel more than 50,000 tickets to their reunion tour sold via secondary ticket sites, and fans are now invited to write about their own experiences buying tickets on the survey.Commissioned by Greater Manchester Combined Authority, The Mayor of London, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, West Midlands Combined Authority, Tees Valley Combined Authority, Cardiff City Council, Belfast City Council and Glasgow City of Music, the survey is intended to “give fans a data driven seat at the table”.A post shared by Music Fans’ Voice (@musicfansvoice)Per the announcement post, the first-of-its-kind survey follows a recommendation from the CMS select committee for a Fan Led Review of live and electronic music, as has happened in football. What the fans say will then help inform decision making at a governmental level and across the music industry, all done with the aim of supporting live music, improving the audience experience and protecting long suffering live music spaces.Last year alone saw the UK lose one grassroots music venue every two weeks, with nearly half making a loss and 200 remaining in a state of emergency.
