Steph McGovern gobsmacked as fake Instagram account is more popular than she is

Steph McGovern has admitted she's started following a fake account pretending to be her on Instagram – because the imposter has got more followers than she does.

The presenter, 39, revealed she was surprised when she discovered that there was a person pretending to be her on social media.And she was even more stunned to discover that the unknown person had amassed more followers than the real her.

Speaking on Steph's Packed Lunch, she confessed she clicked follow on the person's page because she wanted to work out what made them a superior Steph. "I realised the other day that the fake version of me on Instagram had more followers than me," the presenter shared."And I was like, 'What?'"The star's guests and audience started to roar with laughter at her revelation.Looking a little sheepish, Steph – who has more than 72,000 follows on the platform – then confessed: "I started following them to see what they were like and what made them funner (sic) than me."Steph mainly shares bits and pieces to do with work on her Instagram.But she does occasionally give her fans a peek at her private life on her grid.Last weekend she uploaded several snaps from a day out at the beach.One showed the journalist's shadow on the sand, while another was of a workout class.Another cheerful image showed the TV star smiling into the sun as the wind whipped her blonde hair around her face.Steph, who welcomed a baby girl with her girlfriend in November 2019, told her followers: "Making the most of the beach on a beautiful sunny Sunday…"Morning bootcamp with @davidfairlamb_fitness.""Then back with my toddler to play on the sand and splash our wellies in the sea," she added.For more of the latest showbiz news from Daily Star, make sure you sign up.
