Juventus star Paulo Dybala branded a "big cry baby" by West Ham legend Paulo Di Canio
West Ham United icon Paulo Di Canio has branded Paulo Dybala a "big cry baby" amid speculation linking the Argentine with a move to the Premier League. The Juventus forward looks set to leave the club at the end of the season after being relegated to the bench following the January arrival of Dusan Vlahovic, but Di Canio has warned English clubs to steer clear of him, insisting that the 28-year-old is "emotionally fragile"."If things go well, he turns up in games, but if things go wrong, I define him almost as a big cry baby," Di Canio told Corriere dello Sport.Dybala - who will be available on a free transfer in the summer - has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal this season, though both Antonio Conte and Mikel Arteta have proven that they don't suffer fools gladly.Conte quickly dumped troublemaker Tanguy Ndombele in January while Arteta ousted club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang amid reports of discipline problems, and if Di Canio's comments are accurate, neither man will want to take the risk with Dybala. The five-time Serie A winner is also on the radar of Manchester United and Chelsea, though it's understood the player himself would prefer a move to Manchester City.Which Premier League club would Paulo Dybala most suit? Let us know what you think in the comments section.Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Dybala has been in decent form in front of goal for the Old Lady this season, netting 13 times in 29 matches so far.

Lionel Messi's father has reportedly contacted Barcelona over a possible return for his superstar son.The Argentine attacker saw his 21-year association with the La Liga giants come to a shock end last summer as the cash-strapped Catalan club were unable to fund a new contract. The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner subsequently said a teary farewell before joining Paris Saint-Germain's empire of stars, but it's been a far from smooth transition.Messi has only hit seven goals in 26 appearances since moving to the French capital and has seen the club's fans turn on him in the aftermath of PSG's Champions League collapse.Days after the French table toppers threw away a comfortable lead against Real Madrid to crash out of Europe, Messi was whistled and jeered by his own supporters.Booing aimed at the 34-year-old and his PSG team-mate Neymar marred the club's 3-0 with over Bordeaux at the Parc des Princes on Sunday. As Messi's woes continue, it has now emerged that his father, Jorge, has reportedly reached out to former club Barcelona in a bid to end his son's Paris nightmare.Do you think Lionel Messi will ever play for Barcelona again? Mikel Arteta told to make Bukayo Saka change to ensure he doesn't leave Arsenal
Mikel Arteta has been told to ensure that Bukayo Saka doesn't leave Arsenal this summer by handing him the armband following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's departure. The England international has been in fine form in the Premier League this season - and will have dreams of playing in the Champions League next time out.Although the Gunners look well-placed to secure a top-four finish, there could well be interest in Saka from European giants as a result of his increasingly impressive performances.Former Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott has given his thoughts on the future of the 20-year-old, offering up some advice for his former Everton colleague Arteta.Speaking to LiveScore, Lescott said: "You need someone who is going to be playing every week, who can be accountable — and I think Bukayo Saka is that man."Though he’s still only young, he endured something in the summer with England that most wouldn’t face in their entire career."I think Mikel Arteta said it himself, that coming through that penalty miss has done wonders for his character and confidence and I think he’d relish that responsibility.Who should be Arsenal's next permanent captain? Give us your thoughts in the comments section"Also, from an Arsenal perspective, Saka is a player they have to keep hold of at all costs."He has aspirations to play in the Champions League next season, but by giving him the armband, I think he’d be far less likely to leave if they did miss out on the top four."He’s come through the ranks, he loves the club — he simply has to be a leading candidate."Joleon Lescott was speaking to LiveScore. Abandoned 40,000 seater left to rot with pitch and stands reclaimed by nature
Do you think we will ever see the stadium renovations completed? Let us know in the comments section.A whopping sum of $220million (£168million) was pumped into renovating the ground and increasing its capacity to 40,000, but lengthy construction work meant it failed to be completed in time for the tournament. As Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang led his country to the quarter-finals of the competition in front of raucous fans, the Stade Omar Bongo was left in its eerie state.New plans were again made for it to be utilised at the 2017 AFCON as Gabon hosted its second tournament in five years, before those ideas also failed to come to fruition.Instead, weeds and rubble surrounded the stadium, with locals blaming "corruption" and "politics" for repeated delays in construction.Want to be on the ball with all of the latest football news?Well then sign up for the brilliant Daily Star football email newsletter! From the latest transfer news to the agenda-setting stories, get it all in your email inbox - don't miss a thing. It only takes a matter of seconds.Simply type your email address into the box at the top of this article and hit 'subscribe'.And that's it, job done. Man Utd face Eric Bailly decision as Barcelona plot summer swoop for Old Trafford misfit
Manchester United defender has dropped way down the pecking order since Ralf Rangnick became interim manager, and is struggling to get any first-team action. And that situation has alerted Spanish outfit Barcelona as they continue to scour Europe for unsettled players.Since Xavi assumed the Nou Camp managerial reins, the cash-strapped Catalans, with debts of more than a billion pounds, have secured a number of high-profile names who had become outcasts at their clubs.Spain striker Ferran Torres arrived from Manchester City for £50million, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was a free from Arsenal while Wolves winger Adama Traore is on loan with a view to a permanent £30m switch. Now they are aiming to make it a quadruple of Premier League misfits on the books with a move for Bailly. The Ivory Coast international, 27, joined United from Spanish side Villarreal back in 2017 for a £30m fee.Barcelona may have to pay something similar in June to persuade United to do business with two years remaining on the player’s current contract. The Reds’ bargaining position is further strengthened by their option to extend his stay by a further year.Should Man Utd sell Eric Bailly this summer? Arsenal fans will love new transfer target’s savage goal celebration vs Tottenham
Arsenal fans will have loved Armando Broja's celebration against Tottenham Hotspurs earlier this month.Broja has been one of the breakout stars of the Premier League campaign this season, and he continued his golden vein of form with a strike against Spurs. The youngster then ran in front of the Spurs supporters as he let out a massive roar in front of the fans. And with Arsenal linked to the Chelsea loanee, they'll be licking their lips at the cheeky celebration.Mikel Arteta is reportedly a big fan of the English-born Albanian international, and the Gunners could make their move in the summer.According to football.london, Arteta could look to Broja to solve his attacking woes.Arsenal will be without a recognised striker in June with both Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette out of contract in the summer. On top of that, Arsenal lost Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona on Transfer Deadline Day after the Gabonese international had failed to make a first-team appearance since December.Meanwhile, Arteta also missed out on Dusan Vlahovic, who moved to Juventus from Fiorentina. Should Broja move to Arsenal, or does he deserve a chance at Chelsea? Let us know in the comments section Thomas Tuchel, earlier this season, said: “He’s our player and he’s doing good, but at the same time it’s only half a season, so he needs to continue to improve and to make his statement at Southampton.“We have a reason why they are our players, they have quality and mentality and now they are out there on their own in different environments and clubs and proving themselves.“Armando’s getting better and better, he’s a very unique player with unique strengths in his game - he has speed, he’s robust and he’s a goalscorer.”

Arsenal identify Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang replacement but face Chelsea transfer battle
football.london.Broja had not made an appearance for Chelsea before being sent out on loan, though he has always been tipped to have a bright future while working his way up through the academy. With Arteta building a squad with young talents that will improve and create a star-studded squad when those players continue to improve, it is no surprise that the 20-year-old is one of his top targets. But Chelsea are expected to be incredibly reluctant to part ways with their academy graduate given that they are starting to look short of a different option in the final third.Romelu Lukaku has struggled to set the league alight since his return from Inter Milan, and Timo Werner is continuing to look better utilised as a winger rather than through the middle.Discussing Broja earlier this season, Thomas Tuchel said: “He’s our player and he’s doing good, but at the same time it’s only half a season, so he needs to continue to improve and to make his statement at Southampton.“We have a reason why they are our players, they have quality and mentality and now they are out there on their own in different environments and clubs and proving themselves.“Armando’s getting better and better, he’s a very unique player with unique strengths in his game - he has speed, he’s robust and he’s a goalscorer.”Chelsea rejected a bid from Southampton last month for the no.9 which could be a sign of how highly the club rate Broja and thus how unlikely it is that the Stamford Bridge outfit will accept a bid from Arsenal for the star.

Barcelona boss Xavi could scupper Thomas Tuchel's £50m summer transfer plan for Chelsea
Chelsea’s summer transfer window as he reportedly lines up a move for Jules Kounde.Kounde was a target for the Blues last summer, but their move for the Sevilla star collapsed on deadline day after a disagreement over the fee.The 23-year-old has starred for Sevilla since joining the La Liga side in 2019, helping them to win the Europa League and playing a key role in their unexpected title challenge this season.Tuchel has been keen to improve his defensive options for some time, with Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen all out of contract in the summer.French international Kounde is one of his top targets, with Chelsea expected to launch a renewed effort to sign him.But they are facing competition from Barcelona, with Xavi hoping to upset Tuchel’s well-laid transfer plans.According to Sport, Barca are ‘keen’ to sign a replacement for veteran defender and club legend Gerard Pique.Xavi believes that Kounde is the ‘ideal man’ to take Pique’s place in Barca’s backline, following his impressive performances for Sevilla.Who do you think Jules Kounde should join: Chelsea or Barcelona? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section...The Barcelona boss is thought to be a ‘massive fan’ of the centre-back, who has helped Sevilla to secure 12 clean sheets in all competitions this season.Defence is the next area on Xavi’s shopping list, having successfully bolstered his attack in the January window with the signings of Ferran Torres and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. But that outlay could leave them struggling to compete with Chelsea’s financial strength, with Barca still suffering financial problems.Want to be on the ball with all of the latest football news?Well then sign up for the brilliant Daily Star

Barcelona snub new signing Dani Alves from Europa League squad list after three arrivals
Barcelona fans were treated to a major piece of nostalgia in November as to add to the excitement that Xavi Hernandez had returned to the club, he signed a familiar face too.Xavi replaced Ronald Koeman as manager and wasted no time as he brought back friend and former Barcelona great Dani Alves, although he only became available from January 3.Although Alves was brought in to assist to Xavi's plans to get Barcelona back to their former glory, the transfer isn't just a publicity stunt as the Brazilian has featured for the club since becoming eligible in January. However, he won't be featuring for them in Europe this season, as the defender hasn't been named in the squad.Barcelona crashed out in the Champions League group stages for the first time since the 2003/04 season, but they have set up a mouth-watering Europa League play-off against Napoli in February.Following a restructure, third-placed teams must now face-off against a second-place Europa League side in order to progress to the next knockout round of Europe's second tier, but Alves won't be able to help.Involved in Barcelona's European squad announcement were their three January signings Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ferran Torres and Adama Traore, but there was no place for Alves.Alves may now be 38, but the Brazilian has as much experience as any other star to wear the famous Barcelona shirt, as he won three Champions League's and three UEFA Super Cups during his first stint with the Catalan side. The defender also won the Europa League twice with former side Sevilla, although back then it was known as the UEFA Cup.Alves will have to influence his side from the sidelines alongside Xavi, and Barcelona's two-legged play-off with Napoli gets underway on February 17.

Newcastle's mad spending surpasses eight January transfer windows for entire Premier League
The Premier League went big in the January transfer window and it was no surprise to see Newcastle United top the spending charts. The Magpies were taken over by a consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund in November and were always likely to invest heavily at the first opportunity. With the threat of relegation to the Championship looming large, Newcastle’s new owners splashed the cash to bring in five new players.Kieran Trippier (£12m), Chris Wood (£25m), Bruno Guimaraes (£33.3m plus £6.5m in add-ons), Dan Burn (£11m plus £2m in add-ons) and Matt Targett (loan deal) have bolstered Eddie Howe’s squad for the run-in.That gives Newcastle an initial spend of over £80m, with more payments to come, depending on how deals have been structured and performance-related add-ons.Newcastle’s new-found wealth has helped the Premier League record a bumper window with an overall gross spend of £295m.According to market analysis by Deloitte, the 2022 January transfer window is therefore the second highest January transfer window spend ever, behind only 2018, which saw a whopping £430m spent when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Aymeric Laporte were the headline deals.HAVE YOUR SAY! Will Newcastle avoid relegation from the Premier League this season? Comment below. Interestingly, January 2022 is also over four times higher than the spend during January 2021 (£70m), showing the lessening impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Arsenal had deal for Barcelona star 'practically completed' before injury struck
Arsenal were set to sign Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti earlier in the January transfer window before injury struck. The Gunners have been working with the La Liga side on Transfer Deadline Day over a deal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. But that is not the first contact they've had this month.A loan deal was in the works for Umtiti, 28, who recently signed a cheaper contract with Barca so they could register new signing Ferran Torres. He is in desperate need of game time and Mundo Deportivo report the move from the Camp Nou to the Emirates for the rest of the season was ‘practically completed’.However, the Frenchman suffered a fractured toe, ruling him out for a matter of months and putting pay to the switch.Injuries are what have stalled the World Cup winner's career since his move from Lyon in 2016.Umtiti has played just one game all season as even when he has been fit, he's remained either an unused substitute or not been included in the squad.Should Arsenal go back in for Umtiti in the summer? Let us know in the comments section. He's not the only transfer that has fallen through for Mikel Arteta this month.Arsenal's Spanish manager looked to be relieved of his midfield issues with the loan signing of Juventus' Arthur. However, after a breakthrough in talks last week they then struggled to get the deal over the line.It means they look set to end the winter window without any fresh faces for their top four push. Arsenal eye Alvaro Morata transfer - and Mikel Arteta’s assistant 'has spoken to him'
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is said to be 'desperate' to sign a striker on Transfer Deadline Day - but the Emirates is not the only possible destination for Alvaro Morata. With former skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang said to be in 'advanced talks' to play under Xavi in La Liga, Arteta and his team are on the lookout for a replacement after missing out on Dusan Vlahovic. However, the Serbian's move to Juventus has provided a window of opportunity, with former Real Madrid and Chelsea striker Morata looking for a new challenge.Step in Arsenal assistant Miguel Molina, who is said to have spoken with Morata directly ahead of a potential switch despite his previous struggles in the Premier League.Spanish outlet AS reports news of the contract between Morata and Molina, but add that their biggest rival also hold last-gasp hopes of a deal.Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is said to fancy a reunion with the forward who scored 15 goals during their 48 matches working together at Stamford Bridge between 2016 and 2017.Morata, 29, begun his career with Real Madrid and returned after his first spell with Juventus, later joining Atletico from Chelsea before his second transfer to Turin - which is a loan deal. The Spain international managed 20 goals in all competitions last season to match his career best, but has not been so prolific this season with eight goals from 29 outings.Would Alvaro Morata impress under Mikel Arteta? Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang running out of options as Arsenal facing financial hit
Arsenal future.Aubameyang has been left out of the Gunners squad for this week's trip to Dubai for warm-weather training. But while Arsenal are listening to offers for the 32-year-old, his insistence that he will only move to another European club has become a problem.Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr are the only side to have made a firm offer for Aubameyang and were willing to take him on loan with an obligation to buy.But Aubameyang, who will stay in London to work on his fitness having not played since Arsenal's 2-1 defeat at Everton on December 6, is not interested. That leaves the player and club with a problem - because it is understood interest from both Barcelona and PSG has now waned. And while AC Milan and Marseille have also made enquiries about Aubameyang, neither club are willing to take on his huge wages. So if Arsenal want him moved on for the rest of the season, they may have to take a financial hit and offer to subsidise his salary to get him out. What should Arsenal do with Aubameyang? Arsenal fans will love transfer target Dominic Calvert-Lewin's old tweets
Arsenal fans will love Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s tweets from back in the day as the club look to ramp up their interest in his services. The Everton star has long been on the wish list at the Emirates as they look to bolster their attacking force. But that necessity has been made a priority after Mikel Arteta ostracised Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from the squad, leaving the Gunners light up front.Fiorentina star Dusan Vlahovic is the top target but prising him away from Serie A has proved difficult and Arsenal may have to look elsewhere. It has led to the north London outfit ramping up their efforts to sign Calvert-Lewin in the summer. And his old tweets will please Arsenal fans as they suggest that he, too, is a hand-on-heart Gooner.A post from March, 2013 read “#COYG” - a common hashtag among the Arsenal fanbase. At the time, Calvert-Lewin had yet to make an appearance in professional football as he was coming up through the Sheffield United academy - three days away from his 16th birthday. The England international has since gone on to become a key player with Everton, though this campaign has been hampered by injury. The striker has made just four appearances for the Toffees all season in the Premier League while the club have found themselves in a relegation battle.Regardless of his long absence, only three players have scored more than Calvert-Lewin - Demarai Gray, Andros Townsend and Richarlison.Arsenal’s need for a striker was made particularly evident when they drew 0-0 with Burnley on the weekend at the Emirates. After the match, Arteta admitted that he was less than confident that he could bring in the transfers that he wants.“Well, we are certainly trying,” he said, “but I don’t know if we’re going to be able to do

Arsenal to target Dominic Calvert-Lewin if Dusan Vlahovic transfer falls through
Arsenal will move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin if they fail to sign Dusan Vlahovic. But any attempt to sign the Everton and England striker will not be made until the summer - and is certain to be strongly resisted by the Merseysiders.Fiorentina star Vlahovic is Arsenal's top target and they have made it clear they are willing to do a deal worth over £50m to bring him in now.But the Serbian international wants to join a club that can offer him Champions League football next season - and Juventus are currently favourites to sign him.Tottenham have also enquired about Vlahovic but Juve believe the player wants to join them. The Gunners also fear Manchester City could yet come into the running for the 21-year-old, who has scored 20 times in 24 games this season. So Arsenal are drawing up contingency plans - and Calvert-Lewin is the man they will turn to if Vlahovic turns them down. The Gunners have kept tabs on Toffees star Calvert-Lewin for years and believe the 24-year-old's best years are still to come. But Everton will resist any attempt to sign him, despite the financial situation at Goodison Park meaning sales are likely this summer whether they stay up or not.Calvert-Lewin is regarded as a key player by the club both now and for the future, with recently sacked boss Rafa Benitez trying to build a team around him.The 11-cap striker started the season with three goals in three games but was then ruled out for four months through injury, and has only recently returned.Arsenal could say goodbye to three strikers between now and the summer with the futures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah up in the air.Gunners boss Mikel Arteta wants a big name brought in to help his team take the next step and

Arteta says Arsenal "certainly trying" for transfers but they might not get deals done
Mikel Arteta has opened up about Arsenal's January transfer window following the Gunners draw to Burnley on Sunday afternoon.Arsenal's top four hopes took a dent with the draw, but with games in hand Arteta's side can still move into the Champions League spots. And Arteta has looked to strengthen his squad in the January window to boost the Gunners' Champions League hopes."In this market things are complicated," Arteta told BBC after Sunday's draw. The Spaniard then added: "Well we are certainly trying, but I don’t know if we are going to be able to do it, let’s see."Arsenal have been linked with a plethora of names throughout the January window. However, links have persisted for Serie A duo Dusan Vlahovic, Fiorentina, and Arthur Melo, Juventus.Vlahovic has been linked strongly to North London, with Arsenal set to lose Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah over the summer with their contracts up, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looking set to leave too.The Serbian hitman has been in electric form for La Viola this season, and his goals have catapulted Fiorentina to the upper echelons of the Serie A. Arsenal will not register Dusan Vlahovic after he joins due to 'transfer loophole'
Arsenal are closing in on signing Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic following reports that a £67 million bid has been accepted. The Gunners have been in need of a striker since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was stripped of the captaincy and effectively booted out of the club by manager Mikel Arteta last month.Vlahovic meanwhile has been on fire in Serie A, netting 17 goals in 21 matches this season and attracting interest from every corner of Europe in the process. But Arsenal appear to have pipped their rivals to the post and could seal a deal for the Serbian in the coming days, providing personal terms can be agreed.Another major bonus for the north London side is that they won't even have to register Vlahovic if they sign him this month.Registering players can often be a tricky business, as Barcelona have discovered to their cost in recent months, but due to a 'transfer loophole', Arsenal needn't even bother.Even though Vlahovic turns 22 next week, he's still classed as an U21 player according to Premier League rules. This is because "an U21 player is defined as one who is under the age of 21 on 1st January in the year in which the season commences."All Premier League teams have to name 25-man squads at the start of each campaign, but clubs are allowed to include as many U21 players - who don't need to be registered - as they like.According to the rules, a maximum of 17 places in the squad can be filled by overseas players, with the remaining eight places reserved for players with 'homegrown' status. Will Dusan Vlahovic be the best striker in the Premier League if he joins Arsenal?
