Southampton look set to miss out on Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie after a late swoop by Italian giants Juventus.Saints held talks over the 21-year-old USA star but needed to shift fringe players in their squad before doing a deal.And Juventus have now leapt ahead of them for the young midfielder, who is tipped for the top.Saints were discussing a £20m transfer and it is understood that is also the price Juventus were quoted.But the Italians are trying to do an initial loan deal with an option to buy, and are believed to be the player’s preferred option.This is also reported by Sky Sports Italia pundit Fabrizio Romano, who says the Old Lady are offering a €3m (£2.6m) loan fee, with an €18M (£16.1m) option to buy.Mckenzie has been with.
