South Africa Covid variant UK cases hit 147 but scientists say they have 'bigger worry'

Britain's confirmed cases of the South Africa coronavirus variant have hit at least 147, but "homegrown" strains are the "biggest worry", according to experts.

Danny Altmann, professor of immunology at Imperial College London, said the UK must remain on guard, with track and tracing vital to keeping a lid on any new strains.

But he admitted "there is an end in sight" because there's not an unlimited amount of mutations from the current spike antigen which continues to spread through the country.
