Another area will be targeted with coronavirus surge testing after the South Africa variant was discovered there. Everyone in one postcode in the east London borough of Redbridge is urged to get tested whether they have symptoms or not.

It follows ramped up testing in Ealing in West London earlier, and a testing blitz in Buckinghamshire yesterday. Public health authorities say the mutant strain has been found in Redbridge, a capital borough on the border of Essex, as all residents of the Ilford IG1 postcode are urged to get tested.

Testing was also being carried out earlier this week in Brentwood, in neighbouring Essex, after one local was found to have been infected with the South African variant.
