Salford shopkeeper fined for continuing to sell counterfeit cigarettes after raids from trading standards

Sign up to the MySalford newsletter and don't miss a thing happening in and around the city A Salford shopkeeper was found selling counterfeit cigarettes when trading standards officers visited his store to caution him for two similar offences.

On three occasions, officers were able to recover almost 12,000 cigarettes - mostly counterfeit - from the Super Discount Store in Hulton District Centre.

Appearing at Salford and Manchester magistrates court on May 20, owner Shujat Ali, 39, of Rectory Avenue, Prestwich, pleaded guilty to two offences for possession of counterfeit cigarettes.

The court heard that officers first visited Mr Ali’s store in May 2019 with concerns that illicit tobacco was being sold on the premises.
