Many pubs, restaurants and hospitality venues will struggle to make it through to the crucial indoor reopening date, industry chiefs warned last night.
It came as non-essential shops were left counting the cost of not being able to cash in on a pre-Easter boost to trade. Trade body UKHospitality said firms in its sector were burning through £500million of cash a month while closed.
Kate Nicholls, its chief executive, said businesses were “obviously devastated” the reopening will be so far away. “From the start of November, the sector will have been closed for nearly 200 days, with just a couple of weeks of heavily restricted trading in December,” she said. “A major package of financial support is imperative if hospitality is to survive.” Em
