Charles, Prince of Wales (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.

He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held that title since 1958. Charles was born at Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, which his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had attended as a child. Charles also spent a year at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Victoria, Australia.

Prince Andrew to attend Philip’s memorial in first appearance since settlement

Prince Andrew will attend the memorial service for Prince Philip next week, according to his spokesman.The scandal-hit Duke of York would be making his first appearance in public since his out-of-court settlement with Virginia Giuffre last month.Andrew, who is Philip and the Queen's third son, is planning to visit the event at Westminster Abbey on Tuesday March 29.He previously attended his father's funeral in April 2021.The Queen is also expected to to be at the service next week, and will be joined by some of Philip’s friends, colleagues and members of organisations he supported.The decision regarding Andrew’s attendance was understood to depend on whether she considered the service a family event or an official engagement.The potential for Andrew's appearance to detract from the occasion was also considered.The Duke of York can no longer use the title HRH in an official capacity after being stripped of his titles in January following sexual abuse allegations made against him by Virginia Giuffre.The decision was made less than 24 hours after it emerged Andrew was to face a a civil trial over allegations he had sex with Virginia Giuffre when she was 17 – a claim he has repeatedly denied.The case was dropped in February after an estimated £7million settlement was reached.Andrew has always fervently denied all the allegations and his lawyers agreed that some of the settlement sum will go to supporting victims of sexual abuse.A source speaking the Sun suggested that Buckingham Palace officials were trying to find a way of getting the 95-year-old Queen into Westminster Abbey for her late husband's memorial service without being seen.Her Majesty, 95, has recently recovered from Covid, which Prince Charles and Camilla also.
