Even as national restrictions are set to ease, 'postcode lockdowns' may still be needed to tackle mutant Covid variants, it has been reported.
Under reported plans being developed local shutdowns would continue to be implemented to try and curb the spread of new strains.
This would be carried out along with surge testing and detailed tracing to identify any cases of new strains to wipe them out early, The Times reports.
Next week Boris Johnson is set to unveil his roadmap for how the country will climb out of the third national lockdown, first imposed last month.
