Police subjected to nearly 90 coronavirus related attacks in first weeks of lockdown in Scotland

Police Scotland were subjected to almost 90 coronavirus-related attacks in the first weeks of lockdown. A total of, 265 assaults were directed at officers and other members of staff within Police Scotland between March 24 to April 30.

89 of these attacked were classed as coronavirus -related and included police being coughed or spat at. Data obtained by the Scottish Conservatives branded the number of incidents "abhorrent" with the party’s justice spokesperson Liam Kerr said the attacks were "completely unacceptable".In response to a freedom of information request, the force revealed a study was carried out analysing crimes between the two dates.It said: "The results of this exercise identified 265 crimes of assault of an emergency worker.
