Police car pursuit in Ashton ends with dogs catching the motorist

A BMW driver was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and dangerous driving after he fled on foot from his car following a police pursuit in Ashton.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police's Tactical Pursuit and Containment team kept close to the suspect in his vehicle while the force's Tactical Dogs Unit were deployed to stop him in his tracks as he looked to do a runner and flee from his car.

The incident was recounted, along with an accompanying photograph of the pursued car, in a 1.56am post during the early hours of this morning on the official Greater Manchester Police Traffic Twitter account @gmptraffic.

The post read: "This BMW was pursued around #Ashton a short while ago. When the driver couldn't shake off our #TPAC patrols he took to his legs but couldn't outwit @GMPDogs.
