The Academy is defending its Code of Conduct, mindful that some members wish the whole thing would go away for this reason: A substantial portion of the Academy’s expanded membership of 10,000 now lives outside the U.S.
where Polanski’s work is still winning top prizes at festivals. In this country his films are deemed unreleasable but in Europe he’s a legend.
