DCI Banks creator Peter Robinson dies as tributes for renowned author flock in
ITV series DCI Banks.READ MORE: Country music legend Jody Miller dies aged 80 after Parkinson's complicationsThe British series starred Stephen Tompkinson as the titular role and was first broadcast in 2010, running for five seasons before concluding in 2016.In 2013, the show won the drama category at the regional Royal Television Society Yorkshire Programme Awards.The first DCI Banks novel was published by Robinson in 1987 and he went on to write several other novels, short stories and poems throughout his impressive career.He studied English literature at the University of Leeds before leaving Yorkshire behind and heading to Canada with his wife Sheila Halladay.Despite living in Toronto, much of his writing was linked back to Yorkshire, with Carolyn Mays, Robinson’s editor and Hodder managing director, confirming he was "a Yorkshireman to the core."She said in a heartfelt tribute: "Peter was a combination of all the best bits of his detective Alan Banks – thoughtful and passionate about justice, he had fine taste and a totally down-to-earth view of the world.“His humour was wry and very dry.
