Stirling crime writer Craig admits that his singing is criminal

Bestselling Stirling author Craig Robertson has a talent for crime writing, but when it comes to music he admits he can’t sing a note.Although part of supergroup Fun Lovin’ Crime Writers when it formed eight years ago, he will be taking a back seat at their Albert Halls gig on Saturday September 16.The all-star line-up comprises Val McDermid, Mark Billingham, Chris Brookmyre, Doug Johnstone, Stuart Neville and Luca Veste.Craig said this week: “I was part of both gigs that helped form the band, first at the Curly Coo bar in Stirling then at the House of Blues in New Orleans in 2016.“My wife, author Alexandra Sokoloff, helped set up the House of Blues event and got Mark, Doug and Stuart a spot together.

They killed it and the rest is history.“I was also at their first ever gig in Edinburgh, and countless shows since.“It’s pretty cool watching your mates turn into superstars for the night, but I’d loved to have been up there with them.“The only slight drawback is that I can’t sing a note and have no idea how to play any musical instrument.“Brian Epstein was called the ‘fifth Beatle’, but I’m not so much the seventh Fun Lovin’ Crime Writer, more waiter, dogsbody and occasional promoter.“I’ve bought them drinks, carried their equipment, and booked sound engineers for them.“I have joined them on stage to do the ‘woo woos’ on Sympathy For the Devil but they’ve mysteriously taken that off their set list now.“In all seriousness though, they’re fantastically entertaining and really know how to get a crowd going.”Born and raised in Stirling, Craig is the author of ten crime novels, with the eleventh due out this January.He’s been a member of the Bloody Scotland board since its first year in 2013 and watched it grow to become an
