Teenage Cancer Trust gig series in London.This year’s edition of the charity’s annual run of concerts – curated by The Who’s Roger Daltrey – is due to take place at the Royal Albert Hall between March 18 and March 24.Daltrey and The Who will open the series with two gigs on March 18 and 20, with an evening of comedy in between the two shows. Gallagher will be supported by Blossoms for his gig on March 21, before gigs from The Chemical Brothers and Young Fathers on the following two nights.The series will then close on March 24 with a special gig titled ‘Ovation’, which will celebrate 24 years of Teenage Cancer Trust gigs.On the line-up for that show will be Daltrey, Kelly Jones, Robert Plant with Saving Grace, Pete Townshend, Eddie Vedder and Paul Weller.See the full line-up below.

Led Zeppelin IV’ has been resolved.The image of a grey-bearded man stooping over, a bundle of thatched wood on his back and a walking aid propping him up, has been an enigma ever since the album was released in 1971, but now an academic in Wiltshire has uncovered the origins of the photograph.The man in question is a Wiltshire thatcher named Lot Long, who was born in Mere, Wiltshire in 1823, and died in 1893. The photograph was taken in the late-Victorian era.According to The Guardian, Brian Edwards, a visiting research fellow at the University of the West of England, came across the original image while curating an exhibition at the Wiltshire Museum.

Robert Plant’s first performance of Led Zeppelin’s ‘Stairway To Heaven’ in 16 years was prompted by a fan’s “six-figure” charity donation, according to new reports.The performance of the iconic 1971 track – from the band’s ‘Led Zeppelin IV’ album – took place during a charity concert last Saturday night (October 21).Organised by former Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor, the show was held at Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire and raised funds for The Cancer Platform. It also saw the legendary rock frontman perform Led Zeppelin’s ‘Thank You’ and ‘Black Dog’.Now, according to a new interview with former Reef and current Goldray guitarist Kenwyn House – who played alongside Plant at the gig – the performance of ‘Stairway To Heaven’ was prompted by a six-figure charity donation.“Someone bid a huge amount of money for him to sing this song,” he told Led Zeppelin News.

Tony Iommi made a surprise appearance at the premiere of the new Black Sabbath ballet in Birmingham.The ballet, announced earlier this year, opened at the Birmingham Hippodrome last Saturday (September 23) and will run until this weekend (September 30), before moving on to Plymouth’s Theatre Royal and Sadler’s Wells in London. But there’s little question that recent ones — at least the ones that followed the 2015 “Blurred Lines” decision that shook the industry — have sided with creators. The lawsuit around Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” went on for five years before being decided initially in favor of Christian rapper Marcus Gray — who claimed her song was substantially similar to his earlier track “Joyful Noise” — but was overturned in 2020 when a judge ruled that the eight-note “ostinato” Perry allegedly copied lacked the “quantum of originality” to warrant copyright protection (Gray’s appeal was unsuccessful). Later in 2020, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to take up the long-running copyright battle over Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven,” leaving in place a ruling that rejected infringement allegations over the 1971 song. The justices denied a petition aimed at reviving the case, ending six years of litigation over claims that the song’s writers, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, plagiarized the song’s iconic intro from the 1968 song “Taurus” by the group Spirit.

Robert Plant has discussed playing Led Zeppelin songs live and the idea of reuniting the band, saying it wouldn’t “satisfy my need to be stimulated”.The legendary band split up in 1980 following the death of drummer John Bonham. They have since reunited several times, most recently in 2007, but only for one-off gigs.
