Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones has spoken about his experience of launching a solo career, saying that he wants to “make music like filmmakers make films”.The singer-songwriter announced his new solo album, ‘Inevitable Incredible’, and shared its title track last week. All the songs were crafted between October and December of 2022, and have been described as some of his most emotional and brutally honest material to date.The album was recorded at the remote Ocean Sound studio in Norway, tucked away on a remote island in the North Sea, with just Jones’ studio engineer and backline technician with him.Now, Jones – also of Far Front Saints – has written for NME about how ‘Inevitable Incredible’ came about, discussed the “emotion and vulnerability” he put into the music, and spoken about his overall goal as a solo artist.Writing about the record exclusively for NME, Jones said:“‘I’m not sure I got room for an old upright piano at home right now’.

Roger Daltrey has said that he never reads reviews of his work, whether they’re positive or negative.The singer of The Who wrote a “backstage diary” for The Times in which, among other things, he reflected on the final series of concerts he curated for Teenage Cancer Trust. He mentioned that he avoids even positive reviews on social media on the basis that likes and comments are “just ego food”.“The reviews [of the concert] are in but I won’t read them,” he wrote.

Stereophonics‘ Kelly Jones has announced an intimate 2024 UK solo tour set to take place later this Spring.The six-date run of gigs will see Jones play 12 shows – two on each day at each venue with one performance set to go on at 7pm GMT and the other at 9pm GMT. The tour will kick off at the Birmingham Town Hall on Sunday, May 5.

Since its initiation, it has raised more than £32million in ticket sales and has gone on to support those struggling with cancer.Daltrey will be stepping down from the role after this year’s set of concerts.For the 2024 instalment – due to take place between March 18 and March 24 – Daltrey and The Who will open the series with two gigs on March 18 and 20, and an evening of comedy is scheduled in between.Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will appear on the Thursday (March 21), featuring support from Blossoms, and performances from The Chemical Brothers and Young Fathers are lined-up on the following two nights.The series will draw to a close with a celebration of the series, titled ‘Ovation’, starring some huge names from across the rock world.

Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones has criticised the use of artificial intelligence in songwriting.As more artists are speaking out about the increased prevalence of AI in the music industry, the singer said that art is about “a real person’s expression”.Jones was speaking to Times Radio at Latitude Festival on Sunday (July 23), after he’d performed with his new band Far From Saints when he shared his doubts about AI.The musician said it wasn’t until he attended the Ivor Novello Awards in May this year that he released AI technology was being used more to “finish off people’s songwriting” (via BBC).“I’m not against forward-thinking technology and how things are progressing, but I think art should come from people, I mean the basics of it anyway,” he said.“I think art has always been somebody’s expression, a real person’s expression from a heart, from a head.”He added: “If you’re going to start an idea, then a computer finishes it, I mean, it’s OK, but it’s just about algorithms and things like that.”The singer also said he’s “not really into 10 songwriters on a song”, adding: “It’s like if you’re making a painting, you’ve got 10 painters chucking paint on a canvas. I mean, whose painting is it anymore?”Jones is not the first artist to cast doubt over emerging AI technology in the music industry.
