King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Mac Demarco, The War On Drugs, and My Morning Jacket‘s Jim James are among the artists featured on a benefit album in light of the recent Los Angeles wildfires.Earlier this month, Los Angeles was swept by five concurrent wildfires that brought unprecedented destruction to the area – more than 150,000 residents were forced to evacuate from their homes, 28 confirmed deaths and 22 missing persons have been reported to date.Yesterday (January 28), it was announced that ‘Super Bloom: A Benefit for Los Angeles Fire Relief’, a 62-track album, has been released in benefit of those affected by the disaster. Per Rolling Stone, the album was compiled by Nicky Devine, Nicole Lawrence, and Nora McDonough.

Billie Eilish, Robert Smith, Stevie Wonder and Nicki Minaj are just a handful of artists who have signed an open letter warning against the “predatory” use of artificial intelligence (AI) in music.Yesterday (April 2), non-profit organization Artist Rights Alliance issued an open letter titled ‘Stop devaluing music’ about the rise of AI in music, signed by over 200 prominent names in the music industry. Read the full letter here.Through the letter, the artist-run nonprofit organization asks that developers, technology companies, and platforms and digital music services “pledge that they will not develop or deploy AI music-generation technology, content, or tools that undermine or replace the human artistry of songwriters and artists or deny us fair compensation for our work.”The letter states: “Make no mistake: we believe that, when used responsibly, AI has enormous potential to advance human creativity and in a manner that enables the development and growth of new and exciting experiences for music fans everywhere.”“Unfortunately, some platforms and developers are employing AI to sabotage creativity and undermine artists, songwriters, musicians and rightsholders.

LA-based label Stones Throw has announced plans to release a compilation album of artists covering songs from Haruomi Hosono’s 1974 album, Hosono House. The album will mark 50 years of the Happy End and Yellow Magic Orchestra musician's solo debut and will feature contributions from Sam Gendel, John Carroll Kirby, and more.

Mac DeMarco has shared his new collaborative song with Ryan Paris called ‘Simply Paradise’ – check it out below.DeMarco has long expressed his admiration for the ‘Dolce Vita’ singer, including in a 2014 Pitchfork documentary called Pepperoni Playboy, in which he cites the Italian artist as an inspiration and dances down the street to his song.Paris saw the video and later invited DeMarco to “do a remix of ‘Dolce Vita’ together”. “Very interested in working with you,” DeMarco responded.

In a Pitchfork documentary filmed nearly 10 years ago, Mac DeMarco shared his appreciation for the Ital disco singer Ryan Paris and his global 1983 hit "Dolce Vita." Paris responded by extending an invitation to DeMarco to rerecord the song; DeMarco got back to him in a 2016 video and seemed excited by the prospect of working together. Now, at the tail end of 2023, DeMarco and Paris have finally joined forces.

Indie songwriter veteran and iconic cigarette smoker Mac DeMarco has been off nicotine for "a little over a year now,” he told the Associated Press in a recent interview spotted by Stereogum. DeMarco quit smoking over the course of the North American road trip during which he recorded his 2023 project Five Easy Hot Dogs.

Some songs have proper titles such as ‘Ball For The Coach’, ‘Goodnight Baby’, ‘Father Of The Year’ and ‘Stratocaster’, while the majority of the songs are titled with the dates they were recorded on and listed chronologically.‘One Wayne G’ comes three months after DeMarco released the instrumental album ‘Five Easy Hot Dogs’ in January.

Mac DeMarco has announced plans for a world tour later this year, including three dates in London.The singer-songwriter is due to hit the road in July, kicking off at The Ford Theatre in LA on July 14 before taking in further shows in New York and Paris and finally wrapping up at Hackney Empire on August 1 following a run of a trio of gigs.Accompanied by a full band, DeMarco play an intimate set which will see him performing his recent instrumental album ‘Five Easy Hot Dogs’ in its entirety along with songs from his back catalogue with new arrangements.Tickets for the shows go on sale at 10am local time for the London and New York this Friday (April 21) and 11am local time for Paris on the same day. In the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Good Music — a project of author Dave Eggers and music exect Jordan Kurland — has announced a new compilation with dozens of artists benefitting abortion non-profits in the United States.

It’s titled ‘A Cuckhold’s Refrain’, is attributed to a project called Peppermint Patty, and features guest vocals from Mac DeMarco.“I got the beef, you got the cheese / I’ll be the cuck, you be the tease,” Jordan sings on the opening verse of the track, which meets somewhere in the middle between Snail Mail’s emo-tinged indie rock and DeMarco’s woozy, hypnagogic pop.According to Pitchfork, the song – which appears to be the first collaboration between the two singer-songwriters to be released publicly – was recorded in DeMarco’s garage two years ago, and also features JD Beck, DOMi and Deaton Chris Anthony.

Noah Eckstein “America’s Dead,” a new 10-episode podcast about the enduring legacy of the Grateful Dead and the band’s profound effect on American consciousness, was released today.  The limited series, produced by Sonos Radio, is hosted by Grammy-winning filmmaker and producer Emmett Malloy and takes listeners on an improvisational journey through a diverse range of conversations, with the intent of understanding why the Dead is more popular and resonant now than ever.  This podcast takes any preconceived notion that the Dead is just some hippie band and completely shatters it. The remnants are picked up carefully by Malloy, who acts as a spiritual guide through varied conversations that illuminate the intricacies of the Dead’s fanbase.
