A new report from American Atheists reveals that, while nonreligious people in general face discrimination and stigma, those who are LGBTQ have a disproportionate lack of familial support.
Due to their nonreligious identity, more than half of participants had negative experiences with family members (54.5 percent).
Overall family rejection worsens, however, if the participants was LGBTQ; among families who are aware of their nonreligious identity, LGBTQ were significantly more likely to have had “very” or “somewhat” unsupportive parents compared to non-LGBTQ participants (43 percent versus 34.9 percent).
