He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

Nissan warns it could shut UK plant in case of no-deal Brexit

Car giant Nissan warns its Sunderland plant could shut without an EU trade deal. The firm’s chief ­operating officer Ashwani Gupta said: “If we are not getting the current tariffs the business will not be sustainable.” Nissan had said the plant, which employs 7,000, remains “important” to its plans after announcing its facility in Barcelona would close.

Boris Johnson has been adamant he will not seek to extend the Brexit transition, which ends on December 31, despite fears an EU trade deal won’t be concluded by then.
