Newcastle fans have been told their lucrative Saudi-backed takeover could still go ahead after holding crunch talks with Premier League chief Richard Masters.A consortium backed by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, Amanda Staveley’s PCP Capital Partners and Reuben Brothers were set to relieve Magpies supporters of Mike Ashley’s wretched ownership this summer.However, last month the consortium pulled out of a £300million deal to take the St James’ Park reins, with reports suggesting they lost patience amid scrutiny from the Premier League owners’ and directors’ test.Staveley, who would have held a 10 per cent stake in Newcastle had the deal gone through, said: “We are devastated for the fans.
