Muslims in towns and cities plunged into new local lockdowns overnight face ruined Eid al-Adha plans. Larger celebrations must be cancelled in fresh frustration for families only just able to reunite after months apart during the coronavirus lockdown.

Good Morning Britain host Adil Ray explained how devastating the news will be for Muslims in the north: "It is, just to explain to the rest of the nation, it is like waking up on Christmas Day and realising that you cannot go to your family's house and have Christmas dinner, or they cannot come and visit you.

The government ordered Greater Manchester, east Lancashire, and parts of West Yorkshire into sudden local lockdowns in a shock move last night.
