Monklands residents are being encouraged to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day on Friday, despite the cancellation of the planned public events due to the coronavirus pandemic.Airdrie North councillor David Cullen, who is North Lanarkshire’s armed forces and veterans champion, says commemorations can still take place at home on May 8 – including a two-minute silence, national toast and displaying traditional bunting.Special events were due to take place across the country on Friday, with the annual early May bank holiday having been moved from its usual Monday slot to the landmark day in honour of the anniversary, marking the end of World War II in Europe.Schools, community organisations and pubs across Airdrie and Coatbridge had been
